The Lums
The Lums
By Alice Kole
Jon Lum was born and raised in the Eastside neighborhood by his
parents, Wing and Mary Jo, alongside his three siblings Brian, Bernadette, and
Chris. After graduating from Michigan State University, Jon and his wife Brooke
moved to New York City while Brooke finished graduate school.
Although they loved the vibrance and life they found in New York
City, Jon and Brooke decided to move back to Lansing in 2009 to be closer to
friends and family. Starting a family of their own, the Lum’s decided it was
important for them to be close to all of their extended loved ones. Soon after
moving back, the couple welcomed a daughter, Lavinia, and a few years later
welcomed another, Marianne. This fall the Lum’s will welcome a third child to
their happy Eastside home.
The entirety of Wing and Mary Jo’s family currently live within
a two mile radius of each other. Jon’s parents still live in the house he grew
up in, right down the street from where Jon and Brooke call home. Jon’s
brother Chris and his wife Maggie live only a few doors down the same street
and have two children of their own, Quinn and Scarlett. In addition, Jon’s
sister Bernadette and her husband Robbie have four children: Julian, Mya,
Novaro and Sloane. Bernadette and Robbie live about a mile away. “Unkie Brian”
lives a mile away as well.
Once a week, Wing and Mary Jo offer to take all of their
grandkids for a day, planning various activities and field trips when the
weather is nice. Although at one point their children and grandchildren lived
all over the country, Wing and Mary Jo’s family has flocked back to the Eastside
neighborhood and embraced a life full of family, fun and laughter.
